HATCRETE Colourmix used on £100 million redevelopment of Blackpool seafront
A bespoke Colourmix colour was created to integrally colour the concrete at Blackpool’s major tourist attraction.
Originally matched from a sample of sand from the Fylde Coast, “Fylde Buff” was formulated to blend in with the beach front creating the illusion of a seamless transition from beach to promenade. The concrete units were acid etched on site to add to their natural appearance and sprayed in an anti-graffiti coating.
After the success of Colourmix used on the immediate sea front, a dark grey colour was created for Blackpool Borough Council for the Tram System that blended in with the Tarmacadam on the road.
Over 25,000 cubic metres of concrete conditioned with HATCRETE Colourmix has been poured at Blackpool to date. The colour blends in perfectly with the local environment and has remained stable and consistent even in this testing environment.
Over the last 30 years, HATCRETE products have been used extensively on similar sea-front and flood defences projects with great success:
- Chicago Beach – Dubai
- Redcar Sea Defences
- Scarborough Promenade
- Robin Hoods Bay – Whitby
- Bridlington Promenade
- Edinburgh Flood Defences
- Rhyl Sea Front
